One of my favorite ways to shift my mood is to watch a movie – preferably an excellent movie where I can completely immerse myself in the story from the beginning. A perfect example of a movie that fits the bill is “La La Land”. La La Land came out last year to great critical and audience acclaim. It was a commercial hit for a musical of all things. It arrives on Digital HD on April 11, 2017 and on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 25, 2017.
Here are just some of the reasons to watch La La Land and love it:
Fantastic acting by the two leads – Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. If you want to see two masters at their craft, watch these two. Emma Stone won an Oscar for her portrayal of the character Mia. (Ryan Gosling should have for his character, Sebastian).
The opening musical number – In my many years on the planet, I’ve seen a lot of TV and Movies and this just blew me away.
The cinematography – The colors, sets, costumes, are all so vivid – it is a visual feast for the eyes.
The jazz music – Similar to how one of the characters feels about jazz music in the beginning – if you are not a fan when you start watching, I bet you will be by the time the movie is over.
The other musical numbers – I highlighted the opening number, but the others are all equally memorable.
The overarching message – “Here’s to the fools who dream” – I love that the movie stays true to itself and the character’s dreams.
Critical acclaim – 6 Academy Award Wins. “It’s a film that re-enacts, with rare originality, a classic role for the movie medium—escapist entertainment in troubled times”. Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
This movie is well worth your time and is the perfect antidote to any April’s showers blues. Plus, good luck not humming the songs when you finish watching. You can’t help it. Enjoy!
