How to find out what colors flatter you the most?
Do you ever wonder why some people seem to always look more radiant and healthy than you? Odds are good that they have figured out what colors look best on them.
It is really no secret once you know where to look. I had my colors done when I was a teenager and they have mainly stayed the same.
So, how do you find out what colors flatter you the most? You probably already have some clues.
What colors do you naturally gravitate towards? What colors make you look healthier even when you don’t have on any makeup?
First Step – Figure out your Skin’s Undertone
Are you considered to be warm, cool, or neutral?
An easy way to tell whether you are warm or cool is if the veins in your wrist appear to be more green or yellow (warm) or blue or purple (cool). You may be a neutral if you can’t tell for sure if you are warm or cool.
Second Step -Look at your Hair Color
You can figure out your colors by thinking about your hair color (before it has been colored or highlighted).
Is your hair color naturally dark blonde to dark brown? Then, you are probably warm toned.
Cool hair colors can be either light blond or very dark brown to black.
If you are neutral, your hair color is probably a mix of colors – brown with warmer streaks or blonde with ashy tones.
Third Step – What is your Eye Color?
The next step to help determine whether you are warm, cool, or neutral is to add in your eye color to the equation. To help solidify whether you are warm, cool, or neutral, check your eye color.
Cool toned people generally have eyes that are blue, green, or gray.
Warm toned people usually have eyes that are brown, amber or hazel.
Fourth Step – One last check – How do you fare in the Sun Test?
If you are cool toned, you probably either always burn after being in the sun or burn and then tan. Warm toned people tend to turn golden brown.
How does your undertone change as you age?
By now, you should know if you have warm, cool, or neutral undertones. You may wonder if this changes as you age.
The main thing that changes about your colors as you age is you will look better in a more mellow shade. And, just because you may look better in a particular color near your face where it can make your eyes pop more, doesn’t mean you can’t wear it as an accessory or away from your face.
How do you apply this towards the clothes you buy?
There are many resources on the web once you know what color family you will look your best in. If you would like to see actual color swatches for each type, please see Loveselfcare’s Pinterest page for Fashion.

Purchase and Wear Colors that Flatter You to Look Your Best Everyday
That is a quick overview on what colors will suit you best. You can deep dive into this subject if you are interested. There are many websites and books devoted to figuring out the specifics of your best colors.
My favorite way to apply knowing what colors flatter you is to look for my colors when I am shopping. I have cool undertones (blue veins, blue eyes, blonde/light brown hair, always burn then tan). So, I can easily look for cool colors in the store or when shopping online and have a pretty good idea of how I will look in it.
I can wear warm colors as long as it is not right around my face. The biggest difference is when I wear one of my best colors around my face – it makes me look like I’ve had a good night’s sleep and years younger.
And vice versa – if I wear a color that isn’t one of my best ones – I don’t look well. One way that I can fix this, is to wear more makeup or wear a jacket in my colors. However, it is not as easy as just wearing something that naturally goes with my coloring.
I love to apply this idea to capsule wardrobes as well to save me time and money while shopping. This way, I can curate a wardrobe of my favorite styles and colors for each season.
