Self Care Subscription Boxes to Make it Easy to Give Yourself Some Love on a Regular Basis
Subscription boxes as a way to regularly schedule self-care and give yourself some much needed love are all the rage right now. New subscription boxes are cropping up all the time, however, here are some ideas to try when you are not sure which one to pick. (And, I’ve done the tough work of actually trying them out myself. It is a hard job, but someone has to do it, right?)
Paradise Delivered
This might be my favorite box out of this list and that is high praise, because I love all of the boxes on this list. Paradise Delivered is a monthly, every 3 months, or 6 months subscription service (but you can pause shipments as needed). The cost of the box is $39.95, but the value seems higher to me.
The box comes with a tropical vibe of teal and pink on the outside, but it is more of a vacation for a day kind of thing. The box usually has a book to help you mentally escape, either a creative, self-help, non-fiction book or celebrity memoir.
They also have self-care items like body wash, sponges, lotions, etc. Frequently there is jewelry like bracelets, necklaces, or earrings. They also have items for the home like bento boxes, makeup bags, candles, socks, etc.
My favorite thing is the box always includes a treat for you. You might receive some truly decadent dark chocolate or a scrumptious cookie you’ve never had before. It truly feels like an enjoyable mini-vacation from your day and you never know quite what to expect.
cost – $39.95 a month, save on your first box as a trial here, value $200 plus, you can try it here for 15 off your first order
Stitch Fix
Stitch Fix is a clothings subscription service that you can sign up for that can be monthly, quarterly, or as needed. You can also pause it at any time (which is a nice plus). First, you fill out a questionnaire on your style preferences as well as your measurements, and any personal preferences on colors you like or don’t, etc.
Your box will arrive will 5 items you can try on in your home along with style cards to show you two outfits you cana make with your items. The idea is you can use these outfit ideas as a springboard of inspiration by looking for similar items in your closet.
Stitch Fix sends you a mix of staples – jeans, shorts, skirts, sweaters, tops, blouses, accessories, shoes, etc. You can tell them what type of items you want too. If you have too many jeans, you can request not to receive any. Usually they will give you a way to pair up the items in the box in several different ways.
They will send you some trendy items as well to get you to experiment with new things. The brands are quality ones, especially in the jeans area from companies like Liverpool, Kut from the Kloth, etc. The prices are somewhat expensive even if you choose the “bargain” option. The quality and longevity of the pieces usually make up for that though.
Why I like this Self-Care Box (and how it works for me)
The items I have received from Stitch Fix have been some of the best and longest lasting additions to my wardrobe. I love the “go-with” factor of future fixes where they pair with items you already own from the Stitch Fix closet of Fixes.
You can give them your feedback on whether or not they have nailed your style with your latest Fix of 5 items. Sometimes it takes a while for them to figure out what to send you. There is usually at least one thing in each shipment you will like or love. I’ve had times where I wanted the whole box – which you do get a discount on as well. In general, Stitch Fix is a great way to build a really nice capsule wardrobe, which you can read more about in this article “6 Reasons to Try a Capsule Wardrobe“.
cost – $20.00 styling fee to begin your first fix, you then apply that to the total of what you keep, 25% off if you buy the whole box, Here is a referral link – if you want to try it out
Allure Beauty Self Care Subscription Box
Allure Magazine has long been know for the beauty awards they bestow on products they choose. Because Allure is always sampling and trying new products, who would be better than them to curate beauty products for a subscription box?
From what I have received, they certainly give you value for your money. Each month’s box costs around $20.00 a month, but it has a much higher value ($100.00 or more).
You typically will receive 6 to 7 products – some smaller but bigger than “sample” size. Many of the products are full sized products from higher end lines.
You also receive a nice booklet from the editors each month. The booklet covers the products in the box. It also explains how to use the products as well to have the best results. There are also coupons or codes for discounts from the manufacturers in case you want to purchase the products again.
The boxes include items like face masks, nail polish, moisturizers, toners, scrubs, makeup, serums, etc. In my experience, this box is a bargain. You receive so many items, you could even use them as gifts for any teenage daughters, friends, etc. This is a great way to try new products, take care of you and do it inexpensively as well.
Cost – $23.00 a month, value of each box $100 plus, link to try it out
Fab Fit Fun – A fun and cool self care gift box for women
This is the grand dame of subscription boxes for women. It may be one of the first ones as well. Fab Fit Fun is available quarterly (Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall) The box comes with the ability to pick some of your items from a selction. Each season is different in terms of what you might receive.
They have cosmetics, items for your home, self-care items, journals/planners, wellness and exercise tools, and accessories like hats, scarves, bags, jewelry, etc. You also have the option to “add-on” to your box by choosing from a huge array of discounted items in the above categories.
Cost – $39.95, Value – $200 plus, add-on’s available, and beginner trial prices, try it here for $10 off your first box (this does give me credit as well, so thanks!)
Margot Elena, Seasonal Self-Care Subscription Boxes
I just ordered and received the Spring 2024 Margot Elena subscription box and it so cool! I ordered it for a friend as a Christmas present (arrived later but told her ahead of time). She really liked it. So, I decided to order one for myself as I have a March birthday. Anyway, it was glorious (just like it says).
This box is a higher end box and costs more, but in my opinion, if you can afford it – try it. There were so many things I liked about it. The packaging and the individually wrapped items are a really nice touch. You actually feel like you are receiving a present!
Then you add in the quality of the items inside and it is really hard to beat this one. I’ve loved all the products I have used so far – the Tokyo Milk Bath Salts and Tokyo Milk Made Me Blush Perfume are new favorites in my routine.
We’ll see if I like the rest of the boxes each season, but so far so good!
Cost – $59.99, Value – $200 plus, This is for the seasonal subscription box, renews every 3 months (You can also buy single seasonal boxes as gifts but they are more expensive at 79.99)
