How to Find Your Sense of Wonder Again
I recently had the opportunity to visit the West Baden Hotel in French Lick, Indiana, once considered the 8th Wonder of the world. This jaw-droppingly gorgeous hotel never fails to leave me with a sense of wonder and therefore peace.
Being in awe of something larger than myself makes me feel better about my current situation in life. And, this serves as a nice reminder I am not alone in feeling small and insignificant every once in a while.
Humans just like me built something this incredible and many have stood witness to the unfolding of daily life while relaxing under the magnificent dome.
We all need a sense of wonder in our lives at something bigger than ourselves. Nature, religion and/or spiritual beliefs can fill that role as well as man-made things.
Wonder brings hope because if you can restore your sense of awe, you can restore some of the childlike innocence we all lose in the process of growing up.
If you have lost your sense of wonder, you have to find a way to get it back. You will feel immeasurably better when you do, because wonder is closely linked to hope. And, in my opinion, we can all use more of that in our lives.
Some ideas for finding your wonder:
- Museums – Great art that has stood the test of time
- Books – Poetry, writing that takes you away to another world or time, Harry Potter comes to mind
- Nature – Almost any walk in nature can inspire something to be in awe about if you pay close attention to your surroundings
- Music – Anything that transports you out of your physical body for a while
- Space – Thinking about the vast magnitude of our universe fills me with wonder
- Connection – Love in its most pure form lifts and inspires us
- Beauty – Physical, man-made architecture, clothing, whatever you find to be beautiful can create a form of wonder.
What are your thoughts about the idea of finding your wonder? Do you still have it?
Or has daily life caused you to lose sight of it for a while? Well, it can be found again.
Find things that inspire you and learn more about them. There is a big world out there and surely something will inspire some wonder in you again.
You deserve it – go and find your wonder!

Laura!
I enjoyed reading your latest post. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Very often when I’m on a photo shoot and standing on a mountain somewhere the beauty that I see is so amazing I can’t even take a picture. I just have to stand there and take it all in. By the way your pictures are great!!!
